Bicycle Friendly University

CSU is a has a Platinum-level designation as a Bike Friendly University, assigned and awarded by the League of American Bicyclists. This is highest possible level of the award. CBAC members have helped provide volunteerism and support for the initiatives that earned CSU this designation since 2015 when the campus was awarded Platinum to today. The Committee is still supporting our Bike Friendly University culture by tackling initiatives suggested in 2023, the last award cycle, by the League of American Cyclists to make our campus even more accessible for all modes. Trail Naming Projects

In 2015, CBAC proposed that trails shown in the images below be named and/or built to give identity to these corridors and make them more identifiable for feedback and improvements. The Committee continues to advocate for more formal recognition of our important trails and provides input for new trail construction and naming when possible.

In 2026 another set of corridors, this time on the Foothills campus, had names proposed and approved by CBAC’s initiative. The Aspiration Trail, Colalboration Trail, and Rampart Trail pictured below all had names formalized. The naming of these corridors will serve to improve their sense of place, promote utilization, and encourage future improvement projects. Except for the case of Ramprt Trail which is already constructed, this naminig may allow for the eventual grading and paved development of these trails so that they can be accessible by multiple modes and for people of differing abilities.

Corridor Naming and Signage

In 2026 CBAC membership pushed forward an initiative to name a central alley on campus for improved wayfinding. The now-named “Mosaic Alley” is commonly used by pedestrians and campus commuters to access the many surrounding buildings and departments. Bicycle/pedestrian directional signage will be added as a result of the formalized name. The committee is hopeful that there might be increased utilization, sense of place, and aesthetic improvements following the name change. Below is the highlighted “Mosaic Alley” and images of the naming charette called together where CBAC memebrs and other campus representatives from the departments surrounding the alley gave input on the name.

Infrastructure Changes

CBAC is continuously providing campus and community input on upcoming and desired infrastructure changes to make the environment around CSU more accessible by all active modes of transportation. Examples include supporting construction of new trails, expanding current ones, adding bollards to safely separate cyclists and motor vehicle lanes, or improving lane paint and signage.
